Steven Russell has been designing, developing and implementing automation projects for the mining industry across a two-decade career. He has applied his background as a mechatronics engineer to innovative projects that deliver productivity, safety and quality outcomes to many of the world’s top miners. Over the last decade, Steve has led teams and developed growth strategies in executive roles as Mining Director at Scott Technology / Rocklabs and Head of Sales at Southern Innovation.

Since early 2022, Steve has been establishing and growing his own team at Block 10, with a continuing focus on sensing, automation and robotics applications in mining and sample laboratories. This small and agile group undertakes R&D, projects, product manufacture and services to address niche opportunities in the mining industry. Block 10 has deep experience in developing mining automation and laboratory projects, and are well versed in the realities of deploying and supporting equipment in a global industry that is typically remote, distributed and with hazardous / extreme environments. Block 10’s current clients include SGS, ALS, Redpath Mining and AngloAmerican, with applications across Coal, Gold and Nutrients segments in Australia, North America and Europe.

Based in Melbourne, Australia and now with representatives in Perth and Canada, Block 10 is expanding to service and support its clients across key mining markets. Block 10 is pleased to be taking on the continued development, supply, service and support for the field sample preparation equipment (Crusher, Mill, Press) developed by IMDEX, and looks forward to continuing to work closely with the IMDEX team to address the specific requirements of its global customer base. Design updates for the field sample preparation equipment are underway, and due for release later in the year, also with a development pipeline to expand the product range. Block 10 welcomes input and feedback on equipment performance, improvements and potential expansions to the product range from all IMDEX and client stakeholders.

Block 10 will assume immediate responsibility for the completion of new equipment rentals and sales, supported by both IMDEX and Block 10 Agent networks to ensure ongoing global access and support.

IMDEX will contact each of our existing tool rental users over the coming days to discuss case-by-case arrangements to ensure uninterrupted support during this initial phase of transition.
